Cala'n Bosch is a purpose-built resort at the south-western tip of Menorca, centred around an attractive marina and close to some of the island's most beautiful unspoilt beaches. It has a relaxed, family-oriented atmosphere and serves as an excellent base for exploring Menorca's spectacular south coast coves, including Cala en Turqueta and Son Saura, which are among the finest beaches in the Mediterranean. For Irish families who want a quieter, more natural island experience, Cala'n Bosch is a superb choice.
Location and Getting There
Cala'n Bosch is at the south-western tip of Menorca, approximately forty minutes from Mahon Airport (MAH). Seasonal flights from Dublin take around two and a half hours, typically operating from May to October. The resort is close to the traditional town of Ciutadella, Menorca's former capital, which is well worth a visit for its harbour, cathedral and atmospheric old town.
Beaches
The resort has its own sandy beach in a sheltered inlet with calm, shallow water — ideal for young children. The neighbouring beach of Son Xoriguer is slightly larger and connected by a coastal path. The real treasures, however, are the unspoilt south-coast coves within a short drive: Cala en Turqueta, Son Saura, Cala des Talaier and Cala Macarella are all stunningly beautiful, with white sand, turquoise water and pine-forested surroundings. These are reached by car and short walks — arrive early in summer as parking fills quickly.
Things to Do
The marina is the resort's social centre, with restaurants, shops and boat trips. Kayaking, paddleboarding and snorkelling are popular in the clear waters. Ciutadella is a fifteen-minute drive away and has a wonderful old town, harbour restaurants and the impressive cathedral square. The Cami de Cavalls, a historic coastal path that circles the entire island, passes through the area and offers excellent walking. Horse riding is available at several stables nearby. Menorca is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and the island's prehistoric stone monuments (talaiots and taulas) are unique to the island.
Dining and Nightlife
The marina has a good selection of restaurants, with fresh fish, Spanish cuisine and international options. Ciutadella offers a more diverse dining scene in a historic setting. Nightlife is very relaxed — marina bars, hotel entertainment and quiet evening strolls. This is a resort for families and couples who prefer peace over parties.
Best Time to Visit
Menorca's season runs from May to October. The island is windier than Mallorca and Ibiza, and the south coast is generally more sheltered than the north. July and August are warmest and busiest. June and September offer warm weather, quieter beaches and better value. The sea is warmest from July through September.
